Traveling Tips For This Holiday Season

Ho Ho Ho! The holidays have arrived and that means more and more people are going to be on the road. From heavy traffic to dealing with avoidable car problems while on the road, we want to help you get to your holiday celebration as safely as possible! To help you prepare for a safe trip, our team of car experts here at C&G Auto & Truck has compiled a list of tips to help you travel safely this holiday season!

Change Your Oil

If your car is close to its oil change date, it’s best to go ahead and have it changed before a long trip. This will help keep your car in good condition and will help reduce risks of a breakdown during the drive.

Check Tire Pressure

With the cooler weather here, it’s important to make sure your tires are at the right pressure. Too much and too little pressure can become hazardous if ignored. If possible, we suggest keeping a tire pressure gauge handy in your car so you can check the pressure periodically.

Avoid Popular Travel Dates

For example, the Wednesday before and Sunday after Thanksgiving are known to be two of the busiest travel days of the year. Try to plan traveling during the week and at less popular times (early morning, or late evenings) to help reduce your chances of sitting in heavy traffic.

Plan For Extra Travel Time

This is key to arriving safely! When you’re in a hurry, that’s when most things tend to go wrong. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and make sure you factor in fuel stops, meals, etc.

Make Sure You’re Well Rested

Avoid getting behind the wheel if you’re sleepy. If you are leaving while you’re still drowsy, plan to make a few stops to get out and stretch, grab a coffee, etc. to help you stay awake and alert during the drive.

Don’t Let Traveling Ruin Your Holiday

We know how frustrating it can be to travel long distances during the holidays, trust us, we’ve been there. Any trip where you arrive safely is a good trip in our book!
